“Do you think God needs any help?” Stan asked.
“Help with what?”
“Anything and everything.”
“Look Stan,” I responded,“God is all-powerful, all-knowing, the Lord God Almighty. He probably doesn’t need any help.”
“You’re right about that,” Stan replied, “He can do whatever He wants, but I think He certainly desires our help.”
“Take for example,” he continued, “what it says in the Lord’s Prayer about God’s will being done on earth as it is in heaven.”
“What about it?”
“When I pray that prayer, I like to pray it with a parenthetical ‘beginning with me,’ so that my prayer is that His will be done on earth as it is in heaven, beginning with me.”
“In that way, I am surrendering all of me to all of Him so that He can use me in what He wants to accomplish on earth. Thus, I am helping Him.”
“Maybe,” I responded, “that is why it seems so often that God’s will is not being done on earth; maybe not enough people are willing to help Him.”
“Sure seems like that is a possible explanation,” was what Stan replied.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10.
Prayer: Lord, I do pray that your will be done here as it is in heaven, and I pray that it begin in and with me. I give you all of me to do with exactly as you want so that your will is done in and through me into the lives of others so that your will is done in and through them as well. Amen.
