“Stan,” I began one morning, “do you ever find that God is saying the same thing to you over and over?”
“Only all the time,” Stan said with a smile.
“And I find,” he continued, “that God only stops repeating Himself to me on a particular point when He is satisfied that I have understood what He has been saying.”
“He repeats Himself because I haven’t taken to heart what He has been saying.”
“It’s kind of like my sweet wife having to repeat herself to me because I haven’t been listening to what she said the first, second, or however many times she has already said the same thing!”
Stan continued, “God repeats Himself to me because He has something important for me to know. If it wasn’t important, He wouldn’t repeat Himself.”
“Does it ever irritate you that God repeats Himself?”
“Only when I allow self to get in the way of His voice,” Stan said and then continued, “irritation, whether it is with God or with my wife comes from only one source. Self-focus.”
“When I see myself being irritated with God because He is repeating Himself, I look at me. I then confess, repent, and ask God to keep talking, and, if necessary, repeat Himself until He is satisfied that I have taken to heart what He has for me.”
“It is when I stop listening that I am heading in the wrong direction.”
This is My Son, My Chosen One, Listen to Him. Luke 9:35.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for repeating to me what you have for me to hear. Please forgive me when I do not listen and take to heart what you have for me. Please continue to speak and to repeat as often as necessary until I truly know what you have for me to know. Amen.
