“Saw something interesting in the church bulletin on Sunday,” Stan began.
“What was that?”
“In the prayer request section of the bulletin, there was a note about someone who will be undergoing a heart transplant.”
“What was so interesting about that?” I asked.
“Made me wonder why the bulletin does not include a prayer request for all of the people in the church who need spiritual heart transplants.”
“Maybe all of them have good spiritual hearts and don’t need any transplants.”
“If’s that true,” Stan asked, “why then is the church so ineffective in spreading and living the Gospel of Christ?”
“Good point.”
Continuing, Stan said, “It sure makes me look at myself to make as certain as possible that my spiritual heart is in good condition. I want God to look at me and be able to say that I don’t need a heart transplant.”
“Self is the number-one reason for needing a spiritual heart transplant. If I keep self out of God’s way and allow every area of my life to be ruled by God’s Spirit, my heart will be in good condition!”
