“I have to realize constantly,” Stan began, “that trusting God is a blessing in and of itself, not that trusting Him will result in being blessed some time in the future.”
“Too often,” he continued, “I trust in God because I have the ulterior motive of wanting to get something from Him.”
“Isn’t that what trusting in Him is all about?” I responded.
“Certainly not!” Stan responded rather forcefully.
“It is an absolute blessing beyond all measure to know Him and to be allowed to trust in Him. He is totally trustworthy to provide for me in accord with His will.”
“If I approach Him from the standpoint that I will trust in Him if He blesses me, I am way off base.”
“When I take the time,” Stan went on, “to focus on the fact, and it is a fact, that the Lord God Almighty chooses to have a relationship with me, I am blown away. I am blessed by that fact alone. If He chooses to bless me beyond that, it is, as they say, frosting on the cake!”
“Trust in God because it is a blessing to do so.”

He who gives attention to the word shall find good, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord. Proverbs 16:20.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for blessing me by the fact I am allowed to trust in you. The blessing of being able to walk with you and to know you is beyond my wildest dreams. When I think of how gracious you are to build in me the trust you want me to have, I am thankful to the core of my being. Lord, do all you want in and through me. Build my trust in you. Amen.
