“As a general matter,” Stan asked, “do you sleep well?”
“It varies. Some nights are good and some are not. How about you?”
“I am blessed with sound sleep,” Stan replied. “And I think I know the reason.”
“What’s that,” I asked.
“It was something that came to me one morning while I was journaling with God. It was after a night that was not particularly productive from the sleeping standpoint.”
“I was praying about feeling tired. I asked God to give me better sleep so I would be rested each morning and alert for what He had for me.”
“Did He do that Stan?”
“This is what happened. God took me through a thought process that led me to do something I now do every night.”
“He pointed out that one of the Holy Spirit’s roles is to intercede for me. God then made it clear that too often I get in the Spirit’s way.”
Continuing, Stan said, “God then pointed out the obvious that the Holy Spirit does not sleep, so why not specifically ask Him to do His intercession work for me while I am sleeping.”
“That seems a little strange, Stan.”
“Maybe to you, but not to me,” was Stan’s response. “I know I cannot boss around the Holy Spirit, but I can certainly boss myself to get out of the Spirit’s way and ask, even implore, Him to pray for me when I am asleep.”
“Has it made a difference, Stan?”
“Such a difference that I am totally committed to asking the Holy Spirit for His sleep working each night before I go to sleep.”
In the same way The Spirit helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercede for us with groanings too deep for words. Romans 8:26.
Prayer: Thank you for the presence of the Holy Spirit in me. Thank you for His ability and willingness to intercede for me to draw me ever closer to you. Please help me in wanting to get myself out of His way so He can do all He is capable of doing, whenever He wants. Thank you I can and do come before you in the name of Jesus. Amen.
