“Do you remember,” Stan asked, “when we were talking about how I rejoice in my wife?”
“I do,” I responded. “From the Book of Proverbs.” [Note to reader: see Entry Number 7, The Wife of His Youth.]
“Well,” Stan said, “I would like to focus on another verse from Proverbs that really had a positive impact on my marriage.”
“What’s that?”
“It’s a verse that talks about finding a wife and obtaining God’s favor.”
“As I have told you,” Stan continued, “I really had no clue as to what marriage was supposed to be. No idea of what being a husband meant from God’s standpoint. I thought that if I found a wife in the sense of getting married, I was all set.”
“Then, as God is prepared to do if I am prepared to listen, He opened me to a truth that has had a good impact on my marriage. I truly ‘found’ my wife living under the same roof.”
“Happy wife, happy life,” I chimed in.
“No, it’s deeper than that clever cliche.”
“It goes to the heart of truly appreciating God’s provision of a wife with whom I look forward to being with.”
“She is a sister in Christ. I found her and I continue to find her in the sense of discovering the wonder of her as God uses her in my life and in the lives of countless others.”
“And,” Stan said with a smile, “as I proceed down that path, I increasingly gain God’s favor.”
“It’s a win-win situation that He wants; and it’s what I want.”

He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord. Proverbs 18:22.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for helping me to find my wife. She wasn’t lost, I was. She wasn’t lost, she was waiting to be discovered. Thank you for opening me to that truth. And please, Lord, open me to continue to discover all you have for me in my marriage, as well as in every aspect of my life. Thank you that I can come before you and be heard in the name of Jesus. Amen.
In my marriage, I find that as I become more focused on loving God and allow unselfish behavior prevail in my life, the more I see greater value in my wife. It’s once again God’s ways being higher than “man’s” ways. There is a richness in marriage that can only come through the filter of God which only makes sense, since He created us and instituted marriage!

My husband and I used to focus on our selves which resulted to many nights of tears and anger. Only when Jesus became the center and purpose of our lives that our marriage had a 180 degree turn. You know last month we just celebrated our 15th anniversary and we both knew it was not our own doing.
