“You know,” Stan began, “I get an awful lot of mail that promises some sort of get rich quick scheme.”
“Me, too,” I responded. “Most goes right into the recycling.”
“Amen to that,” Stan said.
“But,” he continued, “God does provide for me to get rich quickly and slowly.”
“You are going to have to help me with that,” I responded. “What do you mean?”
“The moment I accepted the free gift of God’s salvation through the finished work of Christ’s cross,” Stan said, “all the riches of glory were given to me. I suddenly became very rich for when I step on the train heading to life eternally with God.”
“OK,” I said, “that’s the quickly part. How about the slowly part?”
“The slowly part is on this side of eternity.”
“God left me here to pursue the process of knowing Him.”
“That is a slow process that is intended to last as long as I have a breath to take on this side of eternity.”
“And,” Stan continued, “as I pursue that process, I am bathed in the riches of learning more about God and what He has for me to be and to do before I get on the train.”
“Clearly, God wants me to pursue the slowly part while I look forward to the rewards of the quickly part!”
“Make sense?” Stan asked.
“Got it,” I replied.
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call upon Him. Romans 10:12.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the riches that await me when I step into eternity to spend the remainder of forever with you. Thank you, too, for the riches of learning to know you on this side of eternity. I need and I ask for all of the help you can provide for me to experience all of the riches you have for me here. Please lead and help me to follow. Thank you I can and do come before you in the name of Jesus. Amen.
