163. Refreshment

“I think my wife and I are going to the theater to watch a movie tonight,” Stan said.

“Which one?” I asked.

“I don’t know for sure,” Stan replied.  “There are a couple of them that have received some good reviews.”

“The one thing I do know for sure is that I will have some popcorn,” Stan said with a smile.

“I love popcorn,” Stan added, “but I hate paying the price they charge at the theater.  We don’t go to very many movies so I justify the cost of buying some popcorn.”

“I generally don’t go to the movie theater,” I responded, “but I sure know what you mean about the cost of refreshments.”

“You know,” Stan asked, “where you can get free refreshments?”

“Free refreshments?”

“Yes, totally free,” he replied.

Continuing, he then said, “From the Lord God Almighty.  He is the source of all I need to be refreshed.  And its free!”

“But,” Stan added, “it is essential for me that I seek His refreshment every day.  If I don’t, it is way too easy for me to get dragged down by the world, the flesh, and the devil. And that can be very costly.”

“If I don’t seek to be refreshed by Him, I miss the joy and peace that can come only from Him.”

Concluding, Stan said, “I don’t want to do that, so I seek God’s free refreshment all of the time.”

Repent therefore and return, that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.  Acts 3:19.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, that you are the source of all of the refreshment I need.  You know my tendency to want to seek refreshment from sources other than you.  Please forgive me for all of that and open me to see you as the only source of true refreshment.  Move in me so that I receive and embrace all of the refreshment you have for me.  Please, Lord, lead and help me to follow.  Thank you I can and do bring all of these prayers before you in the name of Jesus.  Amen.

  1. So often I look to my own strength rather than realize how truly weak I am. Humanity as a whole is frail, yet especially in the western world, we follow the path of the song made famous by Sinatra, “My Way”!
I have come to realize that even though I may think I am strong and demonstrate strength, I am truly weak. It is imperative that I am DAILY in the word of God to keep a healthy perspective of who I am and who God is!
God is God and I am not. As I pursue God, applying His principles and acknowledging His love for all mankind and having a healthy fear of Him, my faith is strengthened in Him. John 3:30 rings more loudly in my ears and heart.
