“Stan,” I said, “you must get up early.”
“I do,” Stan replied. “The Lord wakes me in the early dark of the morning.”
“And you journal prayers and devotions every morning?” I asked.
“That’s right,” Stan said. “Virtually every morning I spend time communicating with God in and through my journals.”
“What’s the first thing you do to get started with your journaling?” I asked.
“It’s the same thing God wants for each of His children. I turn on the light.”
“I can’t write in my journal in the dark, and I can’t be or do anything God has for me if I am in the dark.”
“God has provided the wonder of light so I don’t have to sit and try to write in the dark, and He has provided the wonder of His light so I don’t have to walk in the darkness.”
Continuing, Stan said, “But I have to purposefully choose to turn on the desk lamp in order to see to write.”
“And I have to purposefully choose to let His light shine into every dark area of my life so I can walk with Him on His lighted path.”
“I have to choose first. Then follow up with action.”
Make your face shine upon your servant. Psalm 119:135.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for your provision of physical light so I do not have to sit in the darkness and wait for the sun to come up. And thank you for your spiritual light that shines into the darkness of my life. Please forgive all of the times I choose the darkness of the world, the flesh, and the devil over your light. And please, Lord, lead me in accord with your exact will so that I am filled with all of the light you have for me. Please lead and help me to follow. Thank you I can and do bring all of these prayers before you in the name of Jesus. Amen.
