166. The Whole Message

“There are lots of interesting stories about the early church in the Book of the Acts,” Stan began one morning.

“It was an amazing time,” I added.  “You have something particular in mind?”

“Yes.  At one point because the Jewish leaders were jealous of how the apostles were affecting the people with the message of Christ, they had the apostles thrown in jail.”

Continuing, Stan said, “But God had a different plan.  He sent an angel who opened the jail door and released the apostles.”

“And the angel told the apostles to go and speak to the people the whole message of Christ.”

“Obviously,” Stan continued, “this is a huge subject which will take the rest of my time before I get on the train to step into eternity, but I want to focus on just a tiny part of what I think is meant by ‘the whole message.’”

“Tell me what you think,” I replied.

“It’s just like you were told at the beginning of your journey.  Getting your ticket to Glory is just the beginning of the story.  [Note to reader, see entry Number 2, entitled “A Different Calling.”]

“Accepting the free gift of God’s salvation through the cross of Christ is obviously the essential step that has to be taken.  It is the ticket to Glory, but having that ticket is to make a difference in how I live until it’s time for me to get on the train.”

Continuing, Stan then said, “The ticket is for my eternal destination and it won’t be taken away, but it opens the door to eternal life on this side of eternity.”

“And,” Stan continued, “it is essential for me to remember what Jesus said when He defined ‘eternal life.’  He said that it is knowing God the Father and God the Son.  And that knowledge is to be pursued on this side of eternity.”

“That is a nutshell description of what I think is the whole message of Christ.  It is the message I am to live, follow, and proclaim.”

Go your way, stand and speak to the people in the temple the whole message of this Life.  Acts 5:20.

And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. John 17:3

Prayer:  Lord, help me to understand all you have for me to understand.  Help me to receive and to embrace all you have for me.  Lead me in how you want me to live and proclaim your whole message.  I know I will not know all there is to know about you on this side of eternity, but I also know you want me to pursue you as much as I can.  Please, Lord, lead me and help me to follow.  Thank you that I can and do bring all of these prayers before you in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
