176.1 Take My Hand

“I’ve got one more point,” Stan began, “about that guy in the Book of Acts who had two names, the false prophet Paul blasted because he was trying to keep his boss from the truth of the Gospel.”

“OK,” I said, “let me have it.  Does this one also have a personal application for you?”

“It does,” Stan replied, “just like everything I read in the Bible.  If I focus and am open, God shows me how very practical His Word is for me.”

Continuing, Stan said, “After Paul had given this fellow a piece of his mind about what he thought of him for what he was trying to do, Paul told him that the Lord was going to blind him and he would not be able to see for a time.”

“Did that happen?” I asked.

“It did,” Stan replied, “and that is the point that applies to me.”

“Tell me about that,” I asked.

“It says that this fellow was in darkness and that he went about seeking other people who would lead him by the hand.”

“So,” I said, “you ask people to take you by the hand and lead you?”

“No,” Stan replied rather emphatically.  “When things get dark around me and I am in danger of crashing into things because I am stumbling in the darkness, I ask God to take me by the hand.”

“I think,” Stan continued, “that this fellow asked other people to help him because he did not know or recognize the true source of all of the help he needed, which was the Lord God Almighty!”

Continuing, Stan concluded, “I do not want to make that same mistake.  I know Who I want to take my hand.”

“And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and not see the sun for a time.”  And immediately a mist and a darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking those who would lead him by the hand.  Acts of the Apostles 13:11.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, that you want to take me by the hand and lead me out of the darkness to your lighted path.  Please forgive all of the times I have failed to ask for your helping hand.  Please open me to know when I need to ask.  Please move me to stretch out my hand to receive and embrace all of the leading I need so I will be where you intend for me to be.  Thank you I can and do bring all of these prayers before you in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
