236. Becoming an Enemy

“The Bible,” Stan began, “not only has the answers to all that is important, it has a lot of really great questions.”

“You have some examples of what kind of questions you are talking about?”  I responded.

“The first one that comes to mind is when Jesus asked His disciples who they thought He was.  Another is where the rich young guy asked Jesus how to inherit eternal life.”

Continuing, Stan then said, “I ran across another one of those this morning when Paul was writing to the early church in Galatia.  It really struck a chord with me.”

“How so?” I asked.

“Well,” Stan replied, “when I first became a Christian, I spent a lot of time talking with friends about what had happened with me by surrendering my life to Christ.”

“How did your friends react to that?” I asked.

“That is the tie-in with what the apostle Paul asked.  He asked the Galatians if he had become their enemy by telling them the truth.”

“Unfortunately,” Stan continued, “many of my friends did not like what I had to say about Christ and, in essence, I became their enemy.  They no longer wanted to be around me.”

“Sad,” I responded.

“Yes,” Stan said,  “but what happened is that it caused me to have a whole new set of friends who follow the same Lord, who is really the Great Friend.”

Concluding, Stan then said, “The really valuable lesson for me in Paul’s question is that I am not to fear losing friends by telling them the truth.  I am to tell them the truth and leave the results to God.”

Have I therefore become your enemy by telling you the truth?”  Galatians 4:16.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for the truth of who you are.  Thank you for bringing me to that truth, and for continually opening me to see the truth.  Please forgive me for all of the times I have not lived or shared that truth to those who do not know it.  Please help me in the fear of losing friends if I tell them the truth by placing in me the reality that telling the truth is the most important thing, and that you will take care of the consequences.  Lead and help me to follow in telling the truth and leaving it to you.  Thank you I can and do bring all of these prayers before you in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
