266. All Dressed Up And Everywhere To Go

“Are you familiar with the expression, ‘All dressed up and no place to go’?” Stan asked me one morning.

“Sure,” I said.  “I’ve actually felt like that more than once when I was ready to go somewhere, but didn’t have any place to go.”

“Well,” Stan said, “I have a different perspective on this.”

“Doesn’t surprise me,” I said with a smile.  “Tell me what you’ve got.”

Continuing, Stan said, “When I accepted the finished work of Christ on the cross and put on His robe of righteousness for when I step into eternity, I was left here on this side of eternity to be His disciple and to display His righteousness.”

“So,” Stan then said, “it is like I am all dressed up in the robe of righteousness, but it is not yet time for me to step into eternity.  But that is not the end of the story, it is just the beginning.”

“How so?” I asked.

“Everywhere I go on this side of eternity,” Stan replied, “I am to display the righteousness of Christ.  I am to make a difference for Christ during all of the time I have remaining here.”

“So,” I responded, “rather than having no place to go, you have everywhere to go to exhibit righteousness.”

“Indeed,” Stan replied, “I have everywhere to go but I have to be careful that I am not practicing righteousness just to be seen by others, but I am to practice righteousness because that is what God has for me to do.”

I put on righteousness, and it clothed me.  Job 29:14.

Beware of practicing your righteousness  before men to be noticed by them.  Matthew 6:1.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, that because I have accepted the finished work of Christ on the cross I am clothed with His righteousness for when I step into eternity to be with you.  And I thank you, as well, for leaving me on this side of eternity to practice and exhibit that righteousness to each person you bring before me and in each circumstance in which you place me.  Always for you, never for me.  Please, Lord, lead me in practicing righteousness exactly as you intend.  Lead and help me to follow.  Thank you I can and do bring all of these prayers before you in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
