“I have just about again finished the apostle Paul’s letter to the church in Ephesus,” Stan began, “and I was really struck by something he said near the end of the letter.”
“What’s that?” I asked.
“Paul said that he was sending his friend and brother in Christ, a fellow by the name of Tychicus, to the people in Ephesus so they would know how he, Paul, was doing.”
“So,” I replied, “how and why were you struck by that?”
“It made me realize,” Stan responded, “that God sends people into my life to let me know how others are doing so I can respond as God would have me respond to their situations.”
“And,” Stan continued, “it made me realize that there have been times, probably way too many times, when I have failed to recognize that God sent a ‘Tychicus’ to me.”
“Not only that,” he said, “there have way too many times when I did not respond as God intended when I heard how another person was doing. I ignored what he or she needed as well as how I could have stepped up to be and to do what God intended in response to that person’s needs.”
“For me,” Stan concluded, “it is absolutely essential that I be alert to the people God sends into my life to tell me how others are doing. I need to get my self-focus out of the way and allow the Holy Spirit to lead me to be prepared to watch for and listen to each ‘Tychicus’ God sends into my life.”
But that you also may know about my circumstances, how I am doing, Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make everything known to you. Ephesians 6:21.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that you send people into my life to let me know how others are doing and how I can respond to whatever needs they may have. Please forgive all of the times I have failed to recognize someone you sent, as well as all of the times I have failed to listen about and respond to the needs that you presented through the people you send. Please, Lord, open me to always be on the alert for each “Tychicus” you send into my life so that I will not only listen, but I will be prepared to and actually do respond exactly as you want. Thank you I can and do bring these prayers before you in the name of Jesus. Amen.
