“We may have talked about this before,” Stan began on morning, “but I was in Matthew’s gospel this morning and was struck again by something that for me is fundamental.”

“What do you have?” I replied.

“You know where Jesus was teaching His disciples how to pray.  Some call it ‘The Lord’s Prayer,’ some call it ‘The Disciples’ Prayer,’ others ‘The Our Father.’  Whatever it is called, Jesus was giving some fundamental instruction about prayer.”

Continuing, Stan said,”And the part I want to focus on is where Jesus is talking about the will of the Father being done on earth as it is in heaven.”

“I grew up reciting those words without any particular meaning to me,” Stan said, “but one day, just like this morning, when I read them there was an instant impact that the will of the Father is to be done on earth just as in heaven, and it is to begin with me.”

“Begin with you?” I responded.

“Yes,” Stan replied.  “For the will of the Father to be done on earth, it is, I believe, essential to start with me.  If God’s will is being done in me, and it is being done through me, that is the beginning.”

“And,” he continued, “if every believer has the attitude that God’s will being done on earth as it is in heaven has to begin with them, then we will be well down the road to seeing that part of the prayer accomplished!”

“And that will be a very good thing!”

Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Matthew 6:10.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, that your will is done in heaven and that you want it done here just as it is there.  Please forgive all of the times when I do my will rather than yours.  I want only to do your will, but I need your help.  I want only that your will be done in and through me so that I can be a part of your will being done on earth as it is in heaven.  Please lead and help me to follow in only pursuing your will, not my own.  Thank you I can and do bring these prayers before you in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
