288. No Longer Stuck on Conversion

“Conversion is a fabulous thing,” Stan began one morning, “but it is not all there is.”

“What else do you think there is besides looking forward to spending eternity in the presence of God?” I asked.

“Transformation,” was Stan’s one-word answer.

Continuing, he said, “As I have told you many times, it took me a long time to make the decision to accept the finished work of Christ on the cross and to be converted.”

“On that day when I finally made my destination-altering decision, two primary things happened.  I got my ticket to glory for when my time here is done, and I got the Holy Spirit to live within me and to guide me towards transformation on this side of eternity.”

“While you are waiting for the train,” I said with a smile.

“Exactly!” My friend.  “But for way too long I was stuck on conversion and did not move an inch toward being transformed.”

“And are you transformed now?” I asked.

“No,” Stan responded, “but I am moving in that direction.  Eternal life on this side of eternity is all about knowing God the Father and Jesus His Son.  My pursuit of that knowledge is what transformation is all about.”

“Do you think you will ever be completely transformed?” I asked.

“Not on this side of eternity,” Stan replied.  “And my belief of that only deepens the encouragement to get as much knowledge of God as possible before my time here is done.”

“Bound for glory and no longer stuck on conversion.”

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.  Romans 12:2.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for bringing me to the truth of the finished work of Christ Jesus on the cross so I could accept that finished work and be converted into one of yours who is bound for glory when my time here is done.  Thank you, too, for the truth that you want me to move from conversion to transformation so that I am yours for your purposes in all I am and in all I do on this side of eternity.  You know how terribly reluctant I can be in pursuing the transformation you have for me.  Please, Lord, lead and help me to follow you exactly in accord with your will.  Thank you I can and do bring these prayers before you in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
