317. Happy When People Think He Doesn’t Exist

“Soon after I became a Christian,” Stan began, “I was talking with a neighbor where we lived at that time.”

Continuing, he said, “I was too afraid to be bold with her about my faith, so I was just talking generally about going to a new church that we really liked.”

“But at one point, this neighbor said something that struck me as odd, but I didn’t have an answer for her.  I do today, but I haven’t seen her in years.”

“What was that all about?” I responded.

“She said something to the effect that ‘some people even believe that the devil exists’.”

“That the devil exists?” I replied.  “Isn’t that a given?”

“Not for everyone,” Stan said, “and I can tell you as a fact that if Satan can get a person to think he doesn’t exist, he is smiling big time.”

“In warfare, it is essential to know your enemy.  If a person doesn’t recognize the fact an enemy exists, there is little chance of being prepared for the battle.”

“That,” Stan continued, “is essential for me.  To be prepared for the spiritual warfare I encounter each day, I have to be guided by the Holy Spirit in being able to see and to recognize the enemy.  And, of course, rely on Him in dealing with the enemy He shows me.”

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Ephesians 6:12.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for the victory of the cross and for making available to me all that Christ Jesus accomplished with His finished work.  Thank you that one day, when my time here is finished, I will board the train, bound for where there is nothing but heavenly glory.  Until that day, you have left me here to live and to be yours on this side of eternity, a place where there is evil and wickedness.  Thank you for your presence in me to guide me.  I pray for those who are living their lives in ignorance.  Ignorant of You and all You are and have available for them.  And ignorant of the existence of the evil one who wants only to devour them.  Please, Lord, open their eyes.  And please help me in keeping my eyes wide open to see.  Thank you I can and do bring these prayers before you in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
