“I was in John’s gospel this morning,” Stan began, “and I saw something that I wish could have been Satan talking.”
“Satan talking in the Bible?” I responded. “How could that be? I thought the Bible is God’s word.”
“Oh, it certainly is that,” Stan said, “but there are all sorts of instances where what Satan said is recorded. Just look at the beginning of the Bible where Satan is recorded as deceiving Adam and Eve in the garden. Or where Satan was tempting Jesus in the desert after He was baptized.”
“And you saw something like that in John’s gospel?” I asked. “What was it?”
“Well,” Stan replied, “it wasn’t a record of what Satan said, but it sure was something I wish could have been Satan talking.”
Continuing, he added, “It has to do with what some of the Pharisees had to say after Jesus brought Lazarus back to life, raising him from the tomb. What they said to one another is what I hope and pray to hear come out of Satan’s mouth one day.”
“What were the Pharisees saying?” I asked.
“In essence,” Stan replied, “they said, ‘look, what we are doing is not doing any good, for the whole world is going after Jesus’.”
“Wow!,” I said, “That would be a fabulous thing to hear Satan say, especially the part about the whole world going after Jesus.”
“You’re right,” Stan replied. “Won’t it be great the day when we can hear Satan admit that what he’s doing is not keeping people from going after Jesus?”
“I can hardly wait!”
The Pharisees therefore said to one another, “You see that you are not doing any good; look, the world has gone after Him.” John 12:19.
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for your provision of salvation through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Thank you for those you brought into my life so that I could make the decision to go after Jesus by following Him. Thank you for bringing Satan to the point of having to say that what he was doing, or trying to do, in my life was not having his desired result and that, instead of following him, I choose to go after Jesus. I ask for all of the help you can provide so that you will be able to use me in the lives of others so that Satan will have to say the same thing, that what he is doing is not keeping them from going after Jesus. Thank you I can and do bring these prayers before you in His name. Amen.
Think on this: Can Satan admit that what he’s doing is not keeping you from going after Jesus? If not, what would it look like for that to happen? Do you have a part to play so that the same thing can be said about the “whole world”? How about your world? What can you do with the people in your sphere of influence so that the same thing can be said about them, that what Satan is doing, or wants to do, is not keeping them from going after Jesus?
