179. Listen to Find

“With my journaling,” Stan began, “I have a favorite pen.”

“You don’t do your journaling on the computer?” I asked.

“Oh, no,” Stan replied.  “I find there is a much better connection for me if I do actual handwriting.  There is some sort of great connection for me between pen, paper, mind, and spirit.”

“Anyway,” Stan continued, “I lost my favorite pen yesterday.”

“Did you ever find it?” I asked.

“I looked everywhere.  Some places I looked two or three times.”

“As a last resort, I prayed, asking for God’s help.”

“Did He help?” I asked.

“Yes, but only when I listened.”

“At one point I had the sense of being told to look under a particular stack of paper on my desk.”

Continuing, Stan said, “My immediate response to that sense was ‘I have already looked there three times.’”

“But the sense was for me to look again.”

“Did you ignore the sense again?” I asked.

“No.  I followed that sense and I found the pen.  I had left it in a book that was covered by the stack of paper.”

“Sounds like a good spiritual lesson,” I said.

“You are right about that, my friend,” Stan responded.

“There have been countless times and ways I have responded to God’s voice, in essence, by saying, thanks but I have already looked there, or I have already thought about that.”

“When He says I am to look again, I am to look again. And when He says to think again, I am to think again.”

Concluding, Stan said, “He leads.  My role is to follow.”

“He will lead me to find about Him and His provision what He wants me to find.”

“If I will listen, I will find.”

And I say to you, ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.  Luke 11:9.

Prayer:  Lord, thank you that you want me to find all there is to find about you.  You know my tendency to think I already know all I need to know.  Please forgive me that folly.  And please, Lord, lead me to where you want me to be.  And help me to follow.  Please fill me with the wonder of wanting to know as much about you as is possible on this side of eternity.  Thank you I can and do bring these prayers before you in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
