212. BSI

“My wife and I,” Stan began, “have been thinking about getting a new car.”

“Found any good ones?”  I responded.

“Well,” Stan said, “we’ve just started looking.  We don’t get a new car very often and they cost a small fortune, so it may take some time for us to settle on one.”

Continuing, Stan then said, “We were at one dealer yesterday and we took one of the cars out for a test-drive with the salesperson.”

“Good test drive?” I asked.

“It was and I found out something that really surprised me.”

“What was that?”

“While we were driving down that new freeway that heads over to Centerville, the sales person told me to change lanes to the left.  So I turned on the turn signal indicator, and all of a sudden there was this loud beeping.”

“What was that all about?” I asked.

“It was the blind spot indicator, or BSI, that warned me not to change lanes because there was another car I couldn’t see.  It nearly scared me to death when it beeped, but it sure was a great warning device.”

Stan then continued, “Later I was thinking about that BSI and how great it would be if I had one for every area of my life.  One that would warn me not to change directions because there was danger.”

“And you know what?” Stan said.  “The Holy Spirit nudged me and said that He is the original BSI.  He warns me of blind spots in my life, the dangerous things I don’t see that can really have an impact. But the trouble with me is that I either don’t hear the Holy Spirit or, even worse, I purposefully ignore His warnings.”

“I’ve done it more times than I like to admit,” he continued, “and it is clear that I ignore the blind spot warnings of the Holy Spirit at my own risk.”

“The warning system on a car is one thing, but the warnings of the Holy Spirit that guide and protect my entire being are something entirely different.”

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.  Romans 8:14.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, that you want to lead me in everything, and that you want to warn me about the dangers of straying off of the path you have for me.  Please forgive all of my wandering away from you, and please, Lord, help me to be so attuned to your Spirit that I hear and heed all of His warnings.  Thank you that I can and do bring all of these prayers before you in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
