“One of my neighbors,” Stan began one morning, “has built himself a pretty fancy gym in his garage.”
“So he’s into body building?” I asked.
“Big time,” Stan responded. “He spends a lot of time at it and really looks good.”
Continuing, Stan added, “I’m into body building, too, but not so much the physical kind.”
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“I’m more in tune with the body building the apostle Paul described in his letter to the Ephesians.”
“Which is what?”
“Building up the body of Christ,” Stan replied. “He related to his readers that God has created all sorts of Christians to be involved in equipping other Christians for the purpose of making the body of Christ stronger.”
“I’m not so sure God has anything for me to do in helping other Christians,” I replied.
“Don’t sell yourself short,” Stan responded. “Until you step out in faith seeking to help others, you will never know how God wants to use you to build up His body of believers.”
And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some a pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ. Ephesians 4:11, 12.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that you want to use me to help others in growing closer to you. You know how often I feel inadequate for the task. I ask you to open me to see, understand, accept, and embrace all you have for me to do in helping to build up your church, your body of believers. And please help me in helping others to see how you want to use them for your purposes. Thank you I can and do bring all of these prayers before you in the name of Jesus. Amen.
