388. Being A David

“In reading the Bible,” Stan began, “it is essential for me not to lose perspective.”

“Perspective about what?” I responded.

“God, His heart, and how He still uses people for His purposes,” Stan replied.

“Still uses people?” I said.  “What do you mean by that?”

“Unless I am careful when I am reading the Bible,” Stan replied, “it is easy for me to forget that the people in the Bible are just that, people.  The heroes of the faith are not super-heroes.  They were people who were willing to be and to do what God wanted.”

Continuing, he said, “It is the same today.  It is the same for me, for you, and for all people who are open to hearing and seeing what God has for them to be and to do.”

“David is described as ‘a man after God’s own heart’, Stan said, “and I believe that God wants to say the same thing about me, as well you, my friend, and each one of us who claims to be His.  I think God wants all of us to be just like David in truly seeking what is on God’s heart.”

“There is no question in my mind,” Stan continued, “that God knows everything that is on my mind and heart.  What He wants is for me to seek Him, His mind, and His heart.  That, I believe, is what prayer and being led by the Holy Spirit is all about.  Being a David!  Being a person who truly seeks after God’s heart.”

And after He had removed him (Saul), He (God) raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do My will.”  Acts 13:22.

The Lord has sought out for Himself a man after His own heart.  1 Samuel 13:14.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, that you want me to seek your heart, that you want me to be yours in every aspect of my being on this side of eternity.  I confess that too often I seek my own heart and mind apart from you.  Please forgive me.  And please help me to follow your lead in every aspect of who and what I am.  Please open me to know that there is nothing about me that you do not already know, and that what you want is for me to pursue knowing you and your heart.  Thank you I can and do bring these prayers before you in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
