May 8, 2026 — Ask the One who knows

Stan had ordered the special of the day for breakfast. Since we had already given thanks to the Lord by the time Ricky brought his order, Stan immediacy took a couple bites and smiled. “This is fabulous,” he said to Ricky. “How does Cook do this?”

Ricky responded with, “I don’t know; you’ll have to ask him.”

After Ricky left to wait on some other customers, Stan said, “Did you get the biblical truth Ricky just said?”

“Biblical truth? What biblical truth?”

“While Ricky didn’t know the answer to my question,” Stan replied with a smile, “he knew who I should ask.”

“Isn’t that,” he continued, “what we’re supposed to do with our questions about God, faith, belief, and everything else? Aren’t we supposed to ask, as well as encourage others to ask, the One who knows?”

Bible verses to consider:

You do not have because you do not ask. James 4:2.

Therefore do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need, before you ask Him. Matthew 6:8.

. . . your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. Matthew 6:32.

Prayer: Thank you, Father, for giving Jesus and His finished work on the cross as the way to life eternally with you, the life that begins here and will continue forever. Thank you I can come to you in prayer knowing you know everything I need and that you care about wanting to provide it. Even though I know I will spend eternity in your loving presence, I confess that too often while I remain on this side of eternity I don’t bring my questions and concerns to you, but I try to figure them out on my own. Please forgive that foolishness. Help me follow every step of your lead in always coming before you and asking what you know I need for whatever I may be facing. Thank you that I can and do bring these prayers before you in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Think on this: Can you approach God in prayer through Jesus because you have accepted His finished work on the cross that gives you life eternally with God? If no, why do you choose to remain separated from God both now and forever? If you are a Christian with the assurance of salvation and redemption, how are you doing with coming before God as the only one who knows what you need for everything you may face? If you sense the desire for change with any of this, how is that change going to happen? Is that what you truly want? Why or why not?

The need: Since God knows what we need before we ask Him (Matthew 6:8), what does He know you need to have a deeper prayer life with Him? Spend time reading and studying God’s word, praying, reflecting, and journaling about what God knows you need. He will show you!

Forward: Do you know others who would or could benefit from this devotional? If so, why not forward it and open them to be part of the conversation between Stan and S. Tory Teller?
