July 16, 2026 — Stuck on might?

Stan and I were again at the Twelve Baskets Cafe having breakfast together and talking about growing in our walk as Christians. Between bites of the delicious blueberry pancakes he was enjoying, Stan asked, “Have you ever know anyone who was stuck on might?”

“I don’t even know what that means,” I responded, “so I don’t know if I know anyone like that or not. What does it mean to be stuck on might.”

“It’s what one of my neighbors told me the other day,” Stan said. “It comes from something Jesus said about why He was here.”

“What’s that?”

“That Jesus came that we might have life and might have it abundantly,” Stan responded. “It’s the ‘might’ part that my neighbor told me he was stuck on.”

“How so?”

“He had not actually claimed the new abundant life Jesus came to give,” Stan replied. “It was still just a ‘might’ that he needed to claim to make it a reality. That’s what he did so he now has that abundant life and is no longer be stuck on ‘might’!”

Bible verses to consider:

I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly. John 10:10.

. . . you are unwilling to come to Me, that you may have life. John 5:40.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; . . . Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26.

Prayer: Thank you, Father, for giving Jesus and His finished work on the cross as the way to have abundant life with you, the life that begins here and will continue forever. Even though I know I will spend eternity in your presence, I confess that too often while I remain on this side of eternity I don’t claim all of the abundant life you have for me. It remains a “might have” rather than actually having it. Please forgive that foolish way of actually living the new life you have for me. Help me follow every step of your lead in actually having all of the life Jesus came to give. Thank you I can and do bring these prayers before you in His precious name. Amen.

Think on this: Do you have the new life Jesus came to give, the life that begins here and will continue forever? If no, why do you choose to remain separated from God both now and forever? If you are a Christian with the assurance of salvation and redemption, how are you doing with actually having the abundant life Jesus came to give? Is it still or too often just a “might have”? If you sense the desire for change with any of this, how is that change going to happen? Is that what you truly want? Why or why not?

The need: Since God knows what we need before we ask Him (Matthew 6:8), what does He know you need to actually have the abundant life He came to give ? Spend time studying God’s word, praying, reflecting, and journaling to see what God knows you need. He will show you!

Forward: Do you know others who would or could benefit from this devotional? If so, why not forward it and open them to be part of the conversation between Stan and S. Tory Teller?
