“Some time ago,” Stan began, “you asked me about my willingness to disciple you.”

“Yes,” I responded.  “You focused on the Biblical mandate about that.”

“I would like to take a short walk down a different path with the same question of why I am willing to spend time discipling you in your growth in knowing God; in your walk toward spiritual maturity.”

“Let’s do it,” I replied.

“I view it as my response to God,” Stan said.

“It is my way of seeking to serve Him for His immeasurable gifts to me.”

“God has given me all I have, all I am, and It is my thanks to Him.   You, my friend, are the beneficiary.”

“I don’t want to hurt your feelings,” Stan said, “but it is God, not you, I am seeking to serve.”

“Do you have a model for that?” I asked.

“I do,” Stan replied.

“Doesn’t get any better than that!” I responded.

The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and give His life a ransom for many.  Matthew 20:28.

Prayer:  Thank you, Father, for sending Jesus to serve and to be my role model for my service in thanksgiving to you.  You know my weaknesses in wanting to serve others.  Please, Lord, move in me to want, truly want, to live my life in service to you.  Please bring whoever you want before me so they can be the beneficiary of my service to you.  Thank you that I can and do bring these prayers before you in the name of Jesus.
