190. It’s a Daily Thing

“I saw another great one-verse lesson in the Book of Acts this morning,” Stan began.

“What’s that?” I responded.

“The importance of focusing on God each and every day, not just occasionally when I get around to it,” was Stan’s answer.

“What was going on?” I asked.

“Paul and his friends were continuing their work with the new churches.  The particular verse that came to my attention says that the churches were being strengthened in the faith and increasing in number daily.”

“Note,” said Stan that the emphasis in on the word, ‘daily.’”

Continuing, he said, “That is the lesson for me.  My relationship with God is to increase and be strengthened each day.  It is to be intentional, not a slip-shod approach of getting around to God when I don’t have anything else to do.”

“There was a time in my life,” Stan added, “that my approach with God was that I would spend time with Him when I happened to think about it.  Thankfully, He built into my life a daily desire to want to know Him more deeply.”

“It is vital for me to keep focused on the fact that an ever-deepening relationship with God does not, and will not, just happen without my being intentional about pursuing eternal life on this side of eternity.”

“On this side of eternity?” I asked.

“Yes,” Stan replied.  “In John’s Gospel, in the third verse of chapter 17, it is recorded that Jesus said, ‘And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.’”

“And,” Stan concluded, “I am to pursue that knowledge of God and His Son on a daily basis as long as I am on this side of eternity.”

So the churches were being strengthened in the faith, and were increasing in number daily.  Acts of the Apostles 16:5.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, that you want me to know you.  Thank you for building in me the desire to pursue that knowledge on a daily basis.  You know all of the things Satan tries to put in the way of my pursuit.  Please, Lord, protect me from his attempted distractions in what is the most important thing I can do on this side of eternity.  Help me in wanting to know you as deeply as humanly possible.  Thank you I can and do bring all of these prayers before you in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
